Carrboro goes by the Paris of the Piedmont, a nickname that started as a reporter's wisecrack in 1970 and stuck for good. It began as a mill town called West End, and when the old Alberta Cotton Mill was set for demolition in 1975, residents petitioned and raised the money to save it. The farmers market, running since 1977, sells only what is produced within 50 miles. An outdoor bar like this one fits a town known for its restaurants: every light is individually addressable, so the underglow can go purple for a party and back to white for dinner, right from the app.
