Local Service Area
Elon began in 1881 as a railroad depot called Mill Point, which locals knew as Boone's Crossing. The college founders chose the name Elon because they understood it to be the Hebrew word for oak, and the area was full of oak trees. The town answered to Elon College until the school became Elon University. Under those oaks, an arched entry traced in warm white at dusk gives a front door real presence, and every light along the curve is individually addressable.
