Kernersville began as a crossroads tavern where George Washington stopped for breakfast in 1791, and it took its name from Joseph Kerner, who bought the place in 1817. Its most famous house is Korner's Folly, finished in 1880 with 22 rooms on seven levels, and a model of it hung on the White House Christmas tree in 2001. For a brick home and garage like this one, a soft warm white suits the brick, and a schedule keeps it on from dusk to dawn without anyone touching a switch. By day the aluminum track is color-matched to the trim, so it all but disappears.
