Local Service Area
Matthews was Stumptown first, for all the stumps left when the land was cleared for cotton, then Fullwood, a stagecoach stop on the road between Charlotte and Monroe. The railroad arrived in 1874 and the town took the name of a railroad director when it incorporated five years later. Every Labor Day the Matthews Alive parade fills the streets. For a brick home and garage like this one, a soft warm white line along the eaves is plenty, and the aluminum track is color-matched to the trim, so by day it nearly disappears against the house.
