Hillsborough was founded in 1754 along the Eno River, and it hosted the Provincial Congress in 1775 and the state's first convention on the Constitution in 1788. More than 100 buildings from the late 1700s and 1800s still stand, and the old courthouse clock, whose bell was thrown in the Eno during a 1781 raid and fished back out, still keeps time. On houses with this much history, an arched entry traced in warm white at dusk honors the architecture, and the track is color-matched to the trim so it stays out of sight by day.
