Mint Hill was settled around 1750 by Scots-Irish pioneers and was the first town created in Mecklenburg County. In 1910 its officials handed back the town charter so the county would build a road through, and Mint Hill got along without elected officials until it incorporated again in 1971. Today the town center sits up on a ridge and one corner of town reaches into Union County. Up close, this is what the system looks like by day: black aluminum track with small LED pucks tucked under the soffit, color-matched to the trim so from the street it is nearly invisible.
